Privacy Policy

Effective

Stardate turns a screenshot into a calendar event or a task. This policy describes exactly what data it receives, who processes it, and how long it is kept. It is written to be truthful against what the software actually does.

What we receive

  • Screenshots you submit (by upload, paste, or your phone’s share sheet), and any text you paste with them. Screenshots routinely contain personal information.
  • Your Google account — your email and profile, and, with your consent at sign-in, access to your Google Calendar (to list your calendars and create events) and your Google Contacts (used to match attendee names when a screenshot names people without email addresses).
  • Account and activity records — the events and tasks Stardate created on your behalf, your settings, and an audit log of actions (identifiers only, never screenshot content).

Who processes your data

To do its job, Stardate sends data to these service providers, and only these:

  • Anthropic (Claude) — your screenshot and its text are sent to Anthropic’s API to extract the event or task details and to classify the screenshot. Under Anthropic’s commercial API terms, Anthropic does not train its models on this data, and API inputs and outputs are deleted on Anthropic’s systems within roughly 30 days.
  • Google — Calendar API (to read your calendar list and create events), People API (to match attendee names to contacts when a screenshot names people without email addresses), and the Places API (to resolve a location string in a screenshot to a place).
  • Todoist — when a screenshot is a to-do and you’ve connected Todoist, the task is created in your Todoist.
  • Mailgun — used to send prep emails about your upcoming events.
  • Amazon Web Services (S3) — screenshots are stored briefly, encrypted at rest, while they are being read, then deleted (see retention below).

Retention

The source screenshot is deleted after Stardate reads it — it is not kept. The structured details Stardate creates from it (the extracted event or task fields, the events and tasks themselves, any text you pasted with a screenshot, and your settings) are kept until you delete your account. We do not say “we store nothing” — we delete the image, and we keep the records you asked us to create.

Use of Google user data — Limited Use

Stardate’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

  • We use Google user data only to provide and improve the features you see in the app.
  • We do not use it for advertising.
  • We do not sell it.
  • We do not allow humans to read it, except where you ask us to, where required for security or to comply with law, or on aggregated, anonymized data for internal operations.

Who we are, and your rights

The data controller for Stardate is Stardate (operator: T. McLeod); reach us at [email protected]. We process your data on the basis of your consent (the Google access you grant at sign-in, which you can withdraw by disconnecting in Settings) and our legitimate interest in providing the feature you asked for.

You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and to object to or restrict its processing. You can delete everything yourself from Settings, or email us and we’ll help.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account and its data from Settings. This removes your stored events, tasks, settings, connected-account tokens, and records. You can also disconnect Google or Todoist at any time in Settings.
